7 AC maintenance tips before summer

Simple checks that keep your AC cooling efficiently and save on electricity bills.

1. Clean or wash the air filters every 2–3 weeks during heavy use — clogged filters reduce cooling and increase power consumption.
2. Keep the outdoor unit free of leaves, dust and obstructions so it can release heat properly.
3. Set the temperature to 24–26°C. Every degree lower increases energy use.
4. Check for water leakage from the indoor unit — it usually means a blocked drain pipe.
5. Listen for unusual noises. Rattling or grinding often indicates loose parts or fan issues.
6. If cooling drops noticeably, it may be low refrigerant — book an inspection rather than running the AC for long hours.
7. Schedule a professional service at least once a year, ideally before summer.
